Put your Trust in God and not in
Money
Jesus taught "No one can serve two masters. He will hate the
first master and love the second, or he will be devoted to the first and
despise the second. You cannot serve God and wealth. So how much more will he clothe you people who have so little faith? Don't ever worry and say, 'What are we going to eat?' or 'What are we going to drink?' or 'What are we going to wear?' Everyone is concerned about these things, and your heavenly Father certainly knows you need all of them. But first, be concerned about his kingdom and what has his approval. Then all these things will be provided for you. So don't ever worry about tomorrow. After all, tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:24-34)
Jesus reasons with
you
Trusting in God, does not mean ignoring responsibilities The Bible tells us "If any man does no work, let him not have food. For it has come to our ears that there are some among you whose behaviour is uncontrolled, who do no work at all, but are over-interested in the business of others. Now to such we give orders and make request in the Lord Jesus, that, working quietly, they get their living". (2 Thessalonians 3:10-12)
Pursue Honest work rather than 'get-rich-quick' schemes "Wealth quickly got will become less; but he who gets a store by the work of his hands will have it increased." (Proverbs 13:11)
Be generous according to your means - it demonstrates your faith in God During his visit to the temple in Jerusalem, Jesus
teaches us about how God sees our offerings:
The Bible also teaches that love for God must be
demonstrated by love and generosity to others:
The Balance – What can we expect? The wise words of Agur recorded in the book of Proverbs gives us sound advice on what we should expect in our lives with respect wealth and poverty:“There are two things, Lord, I want you to do for me before I die: Make me absolutely honest and don't let me be too poor or too rich. Give me just what I need. If I have too much to eat, I might forget about you; if I don't have enough, I might steal and disgrace your name”. (Proverbs 30:7-9) God knows what our needs are and he has promised to take care of our needs. Jesus taught us how to pray for our daily “needs” and not our “wants”. “Give us our food for today”. (Matthew 6:11) God’s riches are greater than all the riches of this world "He who overcomes, and keeps my works to the end, to him I will give rule over the nations," (Revelation 2:26)

Firstly, God says it's wrong to turn to people who
claim to speak on behalf of the dead ?This is the tragedy of everything that happens under the sun: Everyone shares the same destiny. Moreover, the hearts of mortals are full of evil. Madness is in their hearts while they are still alive. After that, they join the dead. But all who are among the living have hope, because a living dog is better than a dead lion. The living know that they will die, but the dead don't know anything.... Their love, their hate, and their passions have already vanished.? (Ecclesiastes 9:3-6) So.."Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave where you go." (Eccles. 9:10)

The
Bible deals with practical life issues and acknowledges the reality of
human failings and weaknesses. Most importantly it shows that the only
God who is living, true and powerful, is also loving and
merciful. God is willing to forgive the sins of any individual
who is sorry and willing to change. |

Suffering and Death are real for
all, BUT God's word gives Hope
"the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
Even the perfect man Jesus, went through sufferings: "though being a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered." (Hebrews 5:8)
"The LORD is compassionate, merciful, patient, and always ready to forgive. He will not always accuse us of wrong or be angry with us forever. He has not treated us as we deserve for our sins or paid us back for our wrongs. As high as the heavens are above the earth- that is how vast his mercy is toward those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west- that is how far he has removed our rebellious acts from himself. As a father has compassion for his children, so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him. He certainly knows what we are made of. He bears in mind that we are dust." (Psalms 103:8-14) "For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9) God has provided us hope through his son
God does not forgive
grudgingly. He wipes lives clean of past sins.
God's requirements are straightforward and can be met by anyone who earnestly seek him "Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul [being], and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." (Matt 22:37-40) Jesus shows us how to please God, and tells us
that is is not difficult because of his help: God promises a new world order, a future free of suffering:

Today’s world is surely overflowing with conflict. However God does provide real hope for true peace on earth. Ages ago, God recorded detailed promises of a new world order that he would establish on earth. Faithful men throughout the ages have looked forward with confidence to the fulfillment of these promises. The Bible also gives clear signs to our generation that God's plan is "on- track" and that his plan will soon be fulfilled when his son Jesus returns to earth. Though human efforts at peace continue to fail, there is sound evidence that God will intervene to judge the world and establish his righteous Kingdom on Earth forever. This is our sure hope and provides confidence and peace of mind in a troubled world

God: When Jesus ascended into heaven, God’s angels appeared to his disciples and said: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into the heaven? This same Jesus who is taken up from you into Heaven, will come in the way you have seen Him going into Heaven” [Acts 1:11] “And then they will see the Son of Man [Jesus] coming in the clouds with great power and glory.”[Mark 13:26]

Agricultural tools "Then he [Jesus] will judge disputes between nations and settle arguments between many people. They will hammer their swords into plow-blades and their spears into pruning shears. Nations will never fight against each other, and they will never train for war again." (Isaiah 2:4) A new world order established by Jesus – The King of Kings "The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him- the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of advice and power, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the LORD. He will gladly bear the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what his eyes see or decide by what his ears hear, He will judge the poor justly. He will make fair decisions for the humble people on earth. He will strike the earth with a rod from his mouth. He will kill the wicked with the breath from his lips. Justice will be the belt around his waist. Faithfulness will be the belt around his hips." (Isaiah 11:2-5) A future of Peace, health and prosperity "They will build houses and live there. They will plant vineyards and eat fruit from them. They will not build homes and have others live there. They will not plant and have others eat from it. My people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will enjoy what they've done. They will never again work for nothing. They will never again give birth to children who die young, because they will be offspring blessed by the LORD. The LORD will bless their descendants as well". | Be FREE from fear of Death
It is no surprise that every culture and religion has stories and beliefs about what happens to the “soul” after the body dies. Our beliefs about death become very important and fearful especially when a loved one dies, or when we ourselves face death. Most religions teach that the 'soul', or some part of a human being, goes on living after the body dies. Another popular belief about death is that good people go on to a better place or better life, and evil people go to a bad place or a worse life. Is this really true, or is it 'wishful' thinking designed to comfort mourners and control society? What is the basis of our beliefs? How can we be sure about what will happen when we die? |
|
| The Bible Gives Answers from God: | |
|
Fact: Death comes to all -
no human power or wealth can prevent it Death is an empty state. At death you become like dust – your thoughts, emotions all perish "Do not put your trust in princes, nor in the son of man in whom there is no salvation. His breath goes forth; he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish" (Psalm 146:3-4) Death is God's sentence for disobedience, but God offers us hope of ever lasting life After the first sin, God said to Adam: "By the
sweat of your brow, you will produce food to eat until you return to the
ground, because you were taken from it. You are dust, and you will
return to dust." (Genesis 3:19)
Jesus Christ was the first person to be raised
to immortality, and is the seal of God's promise. After his death by crucifixion, Jesus' was laid
in a tomb. But after 3 days God raised him back to life, thus fulfilling
the prophecy made to Jesus' ancestor, King David, nearly 1000 years
before: Immortal 'Soul' is a human fancy. God tells that 'Souls' DIE "Behold, all souls are Mine. As the soul of the father, also the soul of the son, they are Mine. The soul that sins, it shall die". (Ezekial 18:4 - Modern King James translation)
What is a
'soul'? For example: the same verse as above, is
also translated as: God's breath (or 'Spirit') is what makes people/being/souls to 'live', as shown in the creation of Adam below. Similarly, when God withdraws his breath, the soul/person/being/mind etc dies: "And the LORD formed the man out of dust
from the ground, and blew into his nostrils the breath of life; and man
became a living soul [being]." (Genesis 2:7) "The soul that
sins, it shall die". (Ezekial 18:4) TWe are but dust and at death become dust. Our body and soul die. "For we all must
appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive
the things done through the body, according to what he did, whether good
or bad." (2 Corinthians 5:10) Summary of important concepts:

| Fear only
God: "This is what the LORD said with his powerful hand on me. He warned me not to follow the ways of these people: "Don't say that everything these people call a conspiracy is a conspiracy. Don't fear what they fear. Don't let it terrify you." Remember that the LORD of Armies is holy. He is the one you should fear and the one you should be terrified of". (Isaiah 8:11-13) There is only one God who declares the end from the beginning "Remember the first events, because I am God, and there is no other. I am God, and there's no one like me. From the beginning I revealed the end. From long ago I told you things that had not yet happened, saying, "My plan will stand, and I'll do everything I intended to do." (Isaiah 46:10) Pointless and wrong to fear or worship other created things "The God who made the universe and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth. He doesn't live in shrines made by humans, and he isn't served by humans as if he needed anything. He gives everyone life, breath, and everything they have. From one man he has made every nation of humanity to live all over the earth. He has given them the seasons of the year and the boundaries within which to live. He has done this so that they would look for God, somehow reach for him, and find him. In fact, he is never far from any one of us. Certainly, we live, move, and exist because of him. As some of your poets have said, 'We are God's children.' So if we are God's children, we shouldn't think that the divine being is like an image made from gold, silver, or stone, an image that is the product of human imagination and skill. God overlooked the times when people didn't know any better. But now he commands everyone everywhere to turn to him and change the way they think and act. He has set a day when he is going to judge the world with justice, and he will use a man he has appointed to do this. God has given proof to everyone that he will do this by bringing that man back to life." (Acts 17:24-31) "Don't let yourselves be tempted to worship and serve what you see in the sky-the sun, the moon, the stars, or anything else. The LORD your God has given them to all people everywhere." (Deuteronomy 4:19) Auspicious times and days are not based on sound reasoning “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” [Gen 1:3-5] “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” [Gen 1:31] Do not follow astrology – it is based on human imagination and makes people weak through lack of reason. God also warned the Israelites not to be
taken in by things that other nations believed in, but to trust him, and
to follow his commandments which were rational and
wise: The Ten Commandments of
God God said to the people of Israel: (Exodus 20:1-17)
God's Law summed up by
Jesus Christ | |
| Be FREE from injustice & inequality | |
|
|
| The Bible Gives Answers from God: | |
|
God's law shows he cares about justice For example: "Never take advantage of any widow or orphan." Exodus 22:22 "Whoever deprives foreigners, orphans, or widows of justice will be cursed." Deuteronomy 27:19 "Never deny justice to poor people in court." Exodus 23:6 "Don't be corrupt when administering justice. Never give special favors to poor people, and never show preference to important people. Judge your neighbor fairly." Leviticus 19:15
God
instructed the Kings of Israel to lead with justice and regularly
warned them of his judgments upon them if they acted unjustly towards
his people. For example:
God sees everything and is aware of the injustice in this world "For I know your many transgressions and your many sins. They afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate." [Amos 5:12] "Don't be surprised if you see poor people being oppressed, denied justice, or denied their rights in any district. One authority is watching over another, and they both have authorities watching over them [ie God]". [Ecclesiastes 5:8]
"How horrible it will be for those who make unjust laws and who make oppressive regulations. They deprive the poor of justice. They take away the rights of the needy among my people. They prey on widows and rob orphans. What will you do on the day you are called to account for these things, when the disaster comes from far away? Where will you run for help? Where will you leave your wealth?" [Isaiah 10:1-3]
God promises to bring justice and equity, but we need patience because his time-line is different to ours. "Dear friends, don't ignore this fact: One day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness, but is long-suffering toward us, not purposing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night,.." (2 Peter 3:8-10)
"Because oppressed people are robbed and needy people groan, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will provide safety for those who long for it." [ Psalms 12:5]
When Jesus returns to set up God's Kingdom on earth, we are
promised that: "The LORD is waiting to be kind to you. He rises to have compassion on you. The LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him." [Isaiah 30:18] Do not take revenge - leave it to God who will deliver perfect Justice "Do not give evil for evil to any man. Let all your business be well ordered in the eyes of all men. As far as it is possible for you be at peace with all men. Do not give punishment for wrongs done to you, dear brothers, but give way to the wrath of God; for it is said in the holy Writings, Punishment is mine, I will give reward, says the Lord. But if one who has hate for you is in need of food or of drink, give it to him, for in so doing you will put coals of fire on his head. Do not let evil overcome you, but overcome evil by good. [Romans 12:17-21]
"Do not say, "I'll get even with you!" Wait for the LORD, and he will save you". [Proverbs 20:22] If we have no patience to wait for God's justice, we lack faith in his promises: "You have tried the patience of the LORD with your words. But you ask, "How have we tried his patience?" When you say, "Everyone who does evil is considered good by the LORD. He is pleased with them," or "Where is the God of justice?" [Malachi 2:17]
Jesus endured the greatest injustice, and overcame
evil with good. "We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought him. Then he received the highest position in heaven, the one next to the throne of God. Think about Jesus, who endured opposition from sinners, so that you don't become tired and give up". [Hebrews 12:2-3 ] God will bring perfect justice to Jesus and to all righteous people. God said to Jesus: "Sit at My right hand until I place Your enemies as a footstool to Your feet." [Act 2:34-35]
