Be FREE from the Worries of Money

  • Are you worried about how to pay for a good education and other things your family needs?
  • Do you want the things your friends or neighbours have?
  • Are you anxious and without peace?
If you answered YES to any of the questions above, take heart.  The Bible offers you a chance for freedom from all of these worries. The Bible is God's divine word to mankind and it gives great hope for all people who truthfully and diligently seek him.

The Bible Gives Answers from God:

Put your Trust in God and not in Money
The Bible teaches: "Don't love money. Be happy with what you have because God has said, "I will never abandon you or leave you." So we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid. What can mortals do to me?" (Hebrews 13:5-6)

"Tell those who have the riches of this world not to be arrogant and not to place their confidence in anything as uncertain as riches. Instead, they should place their confidence in God who richly provides us with everything to enjoy". (1Tim 6:17)

Jesus taught

"No one can serve two masters. He will hate the first master and love the second, or he will be devoted to the first and despise the second. You cannot serve God and wealth.
So I tell you to stop worrying about what you will eat, drink, or wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds. They don't plant, harvest, or gather the harvest into barns. Yet, your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you worth more than they? Can any of you add a single hour to your life by worrying? And why worry about clothes? Notice how the flowers grow in the field. They never work or spin yarn for clothes. But I say that not even Solomon in all his majesty was dressed like one of these flowers. That's the way God clothes the grass in the field. Today it's alive, and tomorrow it's thrown into an incinerator.

So how much more will he clothe you people who have so little faith? Don't ever worry and say, 'What are we going to eat?' or 'What are we going to drink?' or 'What are we going to wear?' Everyone is concerned about these things, and your heavenly Father certainly knows you need all of them. But first, be concerned about his kingdom and what has his approval. Then all these things will be provided for you. So don't ever worry about tomorrow. After all, tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:24-34)

Jesus reasons with you
"What good will it do for people to win the whole world and lose their lives? Or what will a person give in exchange for life? The Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father's glory. Then he will pay back each person based on what that person has done". (Matthew 16:26-27)

Trusting in God, does not mean ignoring responsibilities

The Bible tells us "If any man does no work, let him not have food. For it has come to our ears that there are some among you whose behaviour is uncontrolled, who do no work at all, but are over-interested in the business of others.  Now to such we give orders and make request in the Lord Jesus, that, working quietly, they get their living".  (2 Thessalonians 3:10-12)

Pursue Honest work rather than 'get-rich-quick' schemes

"Wealth quickly got will become less; but he who gets a store by the work of his hands will have it increased." (Proverbs 13:11)

Be generous according to your means - it demonstrates your faith in God

During his visit to the temple in Jerusalem, Jesus teaches us about how God sees our offerings:
"And he [Jesus] took a seat by the place where the money was kept, and saw how the people put money into the boxes: and a number who had wealth put in much. And there came a poor widow, and she put in two little bits of money, which make a farthing.  And he made his disciples come to him, and said to them, Truly I say to you, This poor widow has put in more than all those who are putting money into the box:
because they all put in something out of what they had no need for; but she out of her need put in all she had, even all her living". (Mark 12:41-44)

The Bible also teaches that love for God must be demonstrated by love and generosity to others:
"if a man has this world's goods, and sees that his brother is in need, and keeps his heart shut against his brother, how is it possible for the love of God to be in him?" (1 John 3:17)

The Balance – What can we expect?

The wise words of Agur recorded in the book of Proverbs gives us sound advice on what we should expect in our lives with respect wealth and poverty:
“There are two things, Lord, I want you to do for me before I die: Make me absolutely honest and don't let me be too poor or too rich. Give me just what I need. If I have too much to eat, I might forget about you; if I don't have enough, I might steal and disgrace your name”. (Proverbs 30:7-9)

God knows what our needs are and he has promised to take care of our needs. Jesus taught us how to pray for our daily “needs” and not our “wants”.
“Give us our food for today”. (Matthew 6:11)

God’s riches are greater than all the riches of this world
"He will give everlasting life to those who search for glory, honor, and immortality by persisting in doing what is good. But he will bring anger and fury on those who, in selfish pride, refuse to believe the truth and who follow what is wrong". (Romans 2:7-8)

"He who overcomes, and keeps my works to the end, to him I will give rule over the nations," (Revelation 2:26)

God's reward is so great, it is beyond human imagination!:
"But as it is written, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard," nor has it entered into the heart of man, "the things which God has prepared for those who love Him."
  (1Corinthians 2:9)

Be FREE from fear of Ghosts, Mediums, and spirits?
  • Having sleepless Nights?
  • Are you frightened by stories about dead people appearing to living people?
  • Have you had strange experiences that you attribute to ghosts?

Read this section on some of the fundamental truths of life, which are observed in nature and testified by science.  These truths should free us from fears which arise from deceptive superstitions and obscure beliefs which have been passed down through the ages in various cultures

.

The Bible Gives Answers from God:

Firstly, God says it's wrong to turn to people who claim to speak on behalf of the dead
"Don't turn to psychics or mediums to get help. That will make you unclean. I am the LORD your God. (Leviticus 19:31)

Secondly, God tells us it is unwise to ask for help from the dead
"People will say to you, "Ask for help from the mediums and the fortunetellers, who whisper and mutter."  Shouldn't people ask their God for help instead? Why should they ask the dead to help the living?" (Isaiah 8:19)

Thirdly, dead people are really dead!  They cannot do evil or good to you

?This is the tragedy of everything that happens under the sun: Everyone shares the same destiny. Moreover, the hearts of mortals are full of evil. Madness is in their hearts while they are still alive. After that, they join the dead. But all who are among the living have hope, because a living dog is better than a dead lion. The living know that they will die, but the dead don't know anything.... Their love, their hate, and their passions have already vanished.? (Ecclesiastes 9:3-6)

So.."Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave where you go." (Eccles. 9:10)

Be FREE from Sin & suffering?
  • Do you believe your sufferings are due to your past sins... in this life or a previous life?
  • Are you struggling with difficult penance or works to earn God's favour and overcome your wrongs?
  • Do you follow the rules and customs set by your religion out of fear of what misfortune may follow if you don't?

The Bible deals with practical life issues and acknowledges the reality of human failings and weaknesses. Most importantly it shows that the only God who is living, true and powerful, is also loving and merciful.  God is willing to forgive the sins of any individual who is sorry and willing to change.

God puts freedom and a wonderful future within the grasp of every person. The Bible teaches us about God's simple requirements, and demonstrates that our salvation is possible only because of the love and mercy of God. The simple truths outlined in the Bible can set you free and give you a fresh new start and a great future

The Bible Gives Answers from God:

Suffering and Death are real for all, BUT God's word gives Hope
"All people are like grass, and all their beauty is like a flower of the field. The grass dries up and the flower drops off, but the word of the Lord lasts forever." This word is the Good News that was told to you. (1 Peter 1:24-25)

"the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

Even the perfect man Jesus, went through sufferings:  "though being a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered."  (Hebrews 5:8)

All are equal and all are guilty in God's sight.  But God offers forgiveness.
"If we say, "We aren't sinful" we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. God is faithful and reliable. If we confess our sins, he forgives them and cleanses us from everything we've done wrong. If we say, "We have never sinned," we turn God into a liar and his Word is not in us."
(1 John 1:8-10)

Penance and human efforts cannot earn God's forgiveness.
It is God's free Gift to those who fear him

"The LORD is compassionate, merciful, patient, and always ready to forgive. He will not always accuse us of wrong or be angry with us forever. He has not treated us as we deserve for our sins or paid us back for our wrongs. As high as the heavens are above the earth- that is how vast his mercy is toward those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west- that is how far he has removed our rebellious acts from himself. As a father has compassion for his children, so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him. He certainly knows what we are made of. He bears in mind that we are dust." (Psalms 103:8-14)

"For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.  (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God has provided us hope through his son
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes on Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God".  (John 3:16-18)

God does not forgive grudgingly.  He wipes lives clean of past sins.
"Come on now, let's discuss this!" says the LORD. "Though your sins are bright red, they will become as white as snow. Though they are dark red, they will become as white as wool.
(Isaiah 1:18)

God's requirements are straightforward and can be met by anyone who earnestly seek him

"Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul [being], and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."  (Matt 22:37-40)

Jesus shows us how to please God, and tells us that is is not difficult because of his help:
"Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke on you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest to your souls.  For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:18-20)

God promises a new world order, a future free of suffering:
In God's Kingdom..."There will no longer be an infant who lives for only a few days or an old man who doesn't live a long life. Whoever lives to be a hundred years old will be thought of as young..." (Isaiah 65:20)

Be FREE from worry about conflict and war
  • Have you wondered why even in this modern ‘civilized’ era many people live life by animal instincts and are ever-ready to shed blood?
  • Are you disturbed by violence, wars, communal clashes, political disorder, etc.?
  • Why has Terrorism so greatly increased in the present world?
  • Have you wondered if there will ever be peace in this world?

Today’s world is surely overflowing with conflict.  However God does provide real hope for true peace on earth.
Ages ago, God recorded detailed promises of a new world order that he would establish on earth. Faithful men throughout the ages have looked forward with confidence to the fulfillment of these promises. The Bible also gives clear signs to our generation that God's plan is "on- track" and that his plan will soon be fulfilled when his son Jesus returns to earth.

Though human efforts at peace continue to fail, there is sound evidence that God will intervene to judge the world and establish his righteous Kingdom on Earth forever. This is our sure hope and provides confidence and peace of mind in a troubled world

The Bible Gives Answers from God:

When Jesus ascended into heaven, God’s angels appeared to his disciples and said:
“Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into the heaven? This same Jesus who is taken up from you into Heaven, will come in the way you have seen Him going into Heaven” [Acts 1:11]
“And then they will see the Son of Man [Jesus] coming in the clouds with great power and glory.”[Mark 13:26]
Weapons of Mass Destruction will be turned to Agricultural tools
"Then he [Jesus] will judge disputes between nations and settle arguments between many people. They will hammer their swords into plow-blades and their spears into pruning shears. Nations will never fight against each other, and they will never train for war again."  (Isaiah 2:4)

A new world order established by Jesus –  The King of Kings
"The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him- the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of advice and power, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the LORD. He will gladly bear the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what his eyes see or decide by what his ears hear, He will judge the poor justly. He will make fair decisions for the humble people on earth. He will strike the earth with a rod from his mouth. He will kill the wicked with the breath from his lips. Justice will be the belt around his waist. Faithfulness will be the belt around his hips." (Isaiah 11:2-5)

A future of Peace, health and prosperity
"They will build houses and live there. They will plant vineyards and eat fruit from them. They will not build homes and have others live there. They will not plant and have others eat from it. My people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will enjoy what they've done. They will never again work for nothing. They will never again give birth to children who die young, because they will be offspring blessed by the LORD. The LORD will bless their descendants as well".
(Isaiah 65:21-23)

Be FREE from fear of Death
  • Have you considered the inescapable reality of death which has claimed every person, rich or poor, from every nation.
  • Do you worry about what would happen to you or your loved ones after you are gone?
  • Do you desire the visitation of a loved one who has died?
  • Have you wondered if a solution to death will ever be found?

It is no surprise that every culture and religion has stories and beliefs about what happens to the “soul” after the body dies.  Our beliefs about death become very important and fearful especially when a loved one dies, or when we ourselves face death.

Most religions teach that the 'soul', or some part of a human being, goes on living after the body dies. Another popular belief about death is that good people go on to a better place or better life, and evil people go to a bad place or a worse life.  Is this really true, or is it 'wishful' thinking designed to comfort mourners and control society? What is the basis of our beliefs?  How can we be sure about what will happen when we die?

The Bible Gives Answers from God:

Fact:  Death comes to all - no human power or wealth can prevent it
"No one has the power to prevent the spirit of life from leaving. No one has control over the day of his own death. There is no way to avoid the war against death. Wickedness will not save wicked people from dying". (Ecclesiastes 8:8)

Death is an empty state. At death you become like dust – your thoughts, emotions all perish
"For the living know that they shall die; but the dead do not know anything....Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished..."  (Ecclesiastes 9:
5-6)

"Do not put your trust in princes, nor in the son of man in whom there is no salvation. His breath goes forth; he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish" (Psalm 146:3-4)

Death is God's sentence for disobedience, but God offers us hope of ever lasting life

After the first sin, God said to Adam:  "By the sweat of your brow, you will produce food to eat until you return to the ground, because you were taken from it. You are dust, and you will return to dust." (Genesis 3:19)
"...t
hrough one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed on all men inasmuch as all sinned:.."  (Rom 5:12)
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

Resurrection - the ONLY hope of life AFTER death.

Contrary to popular beliefs about reincarnation and going to heaven after death, the Bible presents bodily resurrection as the one and only hope of 'life after death'.  The Bible puts great emphasis on the teaching of resurrection giving hope that we can be raised from death to eternal life:

"for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves shall hear His [Jesus'] voice, and shall come forth, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have practiced evil to the resurrection of condemnation."  (John 5:28-29)

Jesus Christ was the first person to be raised to immortality, and is the seal of God's promise.
All other dead people remain in an unconscious state until he returns to earth as promised:
"But now Christ has risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruit of those who slept [description of unconscious state of death]. For since death is through man [Adam], the resurrection of the dead also is through a Man [Jesus].  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first-fruit, and afterward they who are Christ's at His coming"
(1Corinthians 15:20-23)

After his death by crucifixion, Jesus' was laid in a tomb. But after 3 days God raised him back to life, thus fulfilling the prophecy made to Jesus' ancestor, King David, nearly 1000 years before:
"For You will not leave My soul in Sheol [the grave]; You will not give Your Holy One to see corruption." (Psalms 16:10)

Immortal 'Soul' is a human fancy.  God tells that 'Souls' DIE

"Behold, all souls are Mine. As the soul of the father, also the soul of the son, they are Mine. The soul that sins, it shall die". (Ezekial 18:4 - Modern King James translation)

What is a 'soul'?
The English word 'soul' is just one possible translation of the original Bible word ?nephesh?.
This Hebrew word has also be correctly translated as life, being, mind, person, heart, self, etc. depending on the context. So you can see that 'soul' does not refer to some mysterious part of humans as is often imagined, rather it simply refers to the essence of a being.

For example:  the same verse as above, is also translated as:
"The life of every person belongs to me. Fathers and their children belong to me. The person who sins will die."  (Ezekial 18:4 - Good News translation)

God's breath (or 'Spirit') is what makes people/being/souls to 'live', as shown in the creation of Adam below. Similarly, when God withdraws his breath, the soul/person/being/mind etc dies:

"And the LORD formed the man out of dust from the ground, and blew into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul [being]." (Genesis 2:7)

"then the dust of mortals goes back to the ground as it was before, and the breath of life goes back to God who gave it".  (Ecclesiastes 12:7)

"The soul that sins, it shall die". (Ezekial 18:4)

Simply put, the Bible teaches that:

Dust            +    God's breath   =    living soul
Living soul
-    Breath           =    Dust

TWe are but dust and at death become dust. Our body and soul die.

Jesus will soon judge the whole world
"So if we are God's children, we shouldn't think that the divine being is like an image made from gold, silver, or stone, an image that is the product of human imagination and skill.
God overlooked the times when people didn't know any better. But now he commands everyone everywhere to turn to him and change the way they think and act.
He has set a day when he is going to judge the world with justice, and he will use a man he has appointed to do this. God has given proof to everyone that he will do this by bringing that man back to life."   (Acts 17:29-31)

"For we all must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive the things done through the body, according to what he did, whether good or bad." (2 Corinthians 5:10)

"But, my loved ones, keep in mind this one thing, that with the Lord one day is the same as a thousand years, and a thousand years are no more than one day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his word, as he seems to some, but he is waiting in mercy for you, not desiring the destruction of any, but that all may be turned from their evil ways.  But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; and in that day the heavens will be rolled up with a great noise, and the substance of the earth will be changed by violent heat, and the world and everything in it will be burned up. Seeing then that all these things are coming to such an end, what sort of persons is it right for you to be, in all holy behaviour and righteousness, Looking for and truly desiring the coming of the day of God, when the heavens* will come to an end through fire, and the substance of the earth will be changed by the great heat?"  (2Peter 3:7-12)
*  this word is frequently used as a symbol of human governments and power, exercised thru armies etc.

Summary of important concepts:
  • Souls Die:  Death is a state of complete unconsciousness, where there can be no thought, nor happiness, love, sadness or revenge.
  • Resurrection:  Just as Jesus Christ was raised from the grave to eternal life, those who faithfully follow his commandments are promised that they too will be raised from their graves to eternal life when Jesus Christ returns.
  • Judgment: People, both good and evil will be raised from the dead to be judged by the one appointed by God - Jesus Christ.  He will judge with complete righteousness and implement his judgments with power - rewarding people with eternal life or eternal death according to their deeds.
  • New world order: At his return, Jesus will also set up God's Kingdom on earth, and reign as King of the whole earth

Be FREE of Superstition
  • Are you sacrificing your time and money to things you fear?
  • Are your important decisions dictated by complex rules and regulations?
  • Do you observe the rules of your religion or culture through fear of what will happen if you don't conform?
  • Are your fears based on real possibilities or on superstition?
  • Have you wondered how so many people lead a healthy and prosperous life without observing the rules that bind your life?

The Bible Gives Answers from God:
Fear only God:
"This is what the LORD said with his powerful hand on me. He warned me not to follow the ways of these people: "Don't say that everything these people call a conspiracy is a conspiracy. Don't fear what they fear. Don't let it terrify you." Remember that the LORD of Armies is holy. He is the one you should fear and the one you should be terrified of". (Isaiah 8:11-13)

There is only one God who declares the end from the beginning
"Remember the first events, because I am God, and there is no other. I am God, and there's no one like me. From the beginning I revealed the end. From long ago I told you things that had not yet happened, saying, "My plan will stand, and I'll do everything I intended to do." (Isaiah 46:10)

Pointless and wrong to fear or worship other created things
"The God who made the universe and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth. He doesn't live in shrines made by humans, and he isn't served by humans as if he needed anything.
He gives everyone life, breath, and everything they have. From one man he has made every nation of humanity to live all over the earth. He has given them the seasons of the year and the boundaries within which to live. He has done this so that they would look for God, somehow reach for him, and find him. In fact, he is never far from any one of us. Certainly, we live, move, and exist because of him. As some of your poets have said, 'We are God's children.'
So if we are God's children, we shouldn't think that the divine being is like an image made from gold, silver, or stone, an image that is the product of human imagination and skill. God overlooked the times when people didn't know any better. But now he commands everyone everywhere to turn to him and change the way they think and act. He has set a day when he is going to judge the world with justice, and he will use a man he has appointed to do this. God has given proof to everyone that he will do this by bringing that man back to life." (Acts 17:24-31)

"Don't let yourselves be tempted to worship and serve what you see in the sky-the sun, the moon, the stars, or anything else. The LORD your God has given them to all people everywhere." (Deuteronomy 4:19)

Auspicious times and days are not based on sound reasoning

In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth he blessed all 7 days of creation – Sunday to Saturday.
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” [Gen 1:3-5]

“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”  [Gen 1:31]

Do not follow astrology – it is based on human imagination and makes people weak through lack of reason.
In ancient times,
God used his prophet Isaiah to warn the Babylonians they would be destroyed  because of their wickedness and because they had ignored the one true God.  In particular he condemned them for putting their trust in people and things that had no power to save them.
"You are worn out by your many plans.  Let your astrologers and your stargazers, who foretell the future month by month, come to you, rise up, and save you.  They are like straw. Fire burns them. They can't rescue themselves from the flames... "   (Isaiah 47:13-14)

God also warned the Israelites not to be taken in by things that other nations believed in, but to trust him, and to follow his commandments which were rational and wise:
"...For these nations whom you shall expel listen to observers of clouds, and to those divining. But as to you, the LORD your God has not given to you to do so. The LORD your God shall raise up to you a prophet* from among you, of your brothers, one like me; you shall listen to him" (Deuteronomy 18:13-15)

*Note: thousands of years later, in New Testament times, the promised prophet 'like Moses' is positively identified as Jesus Christ:

"Then times will come when the Lord will refresh you. He will send you Jesus, whom he has appointed to be the Christ. Heaven must receive Jesus until the time when everything will be restored as God promised through his holy prophets long ago. "Moses said, 'The Lord your God will send you a prophet, an Israelite like me. Listen to everything he tells you. Those who won't listen to that prophet will be excluded from the people.'"
(Acts 3:20-23 )

The Ten Commandments of God
In the time of Moses, as the people of Israel traveled from slavery in Egypt to the promised land, God gave people the Ten Commandments (see below).  These simple but profoundly wise laws, were designed by the almighty God for the well-being and health of individuals, families, and the entire nation. In times when the people of Israel obeyed these laws, they were greatly blessed, but when they ignored the laws, they suffered the terrible consequences.

God said to the people of Israel: (Exodus 20:1-17)

  1. I am the LORD your God, the one who brought you out of Egypt where you were slaves.
  2. Do not worship any god except me. Do not make idols that look like anything in the sky or on earth or in the ocean under the earth.
  3. Do not misuse my name. I am the LORD your God, and I will punish anyone who misuses my name.
  4. Remember that the Sabbath Day belongs to me. You have six days when you can do your work, but the 7th day of each week belongs to me, your God. No one is to work on that day --not you, your children, your slaves, your animals, or the foreigners who live in your towns.
  5. Respect your father and mother, and you will live a long time in the land I am giving you.
  6. Do not murder.
  7. Be faithful in marriage.
  8. Do not steal.
  9. Do not tell lies about others.
  10. Do not want anything that belongs to someone else. Don't want anyone's house, wife or husband, slaves, oxen, donkeys or anything else.

God's Law summed up by Jesus Christ
Due to their obsession with rituals, rites and man-made regulations, many of Israel’s religious leaders were blind to the real meaning and justice of God’s law. In contrast, Jesus came and demonstrated the true meaning of God’s law in word and action.  Jealous of his popularity and stung by the confrontation of his teaching, the religious leaders sought to silence Jesus often tried to trap him with questions about the law
"One of them, an expert in Moses' Teachings, tested Jesus by asking, "Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in Moses' Teachings?" Jesus answered him, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.'
All of Moses' Teachings and the Prophets depend on these two commandments."
(Matt 22:35-40)

Be FREE from injustice & inequality
  • Are you suffering because of injustice or inequality?
  • Do you feel helpless or annoyed that so much injustice goes unpunished in this world?
  • Do you desire revenge for injustices suffered?

The Bible Gives Answers from God:

God's law shows he cares about justice

For example:

"Never take advantage of any widow or orphan."  Exodus 22:22

"Whoever deprives foreigners, orphans, or widows of justice will be cursed." Deuteronomy 27:19

"Never deny justice to poor people in court."  Exodus 23:6

"Don't be corrupt when administering justice. Never give special favors to poor people, and never show preference to important people. Judge your neighbor fairly."  Leviticus 19:15

God instructed the Kings of Israel to lead with justice and regularly warned them of his judgments upon them if they acted unjustly towards his people.  For example:
"This is what the LORD says: Judge fairly, and do what is right. Rescue those who have been robbed from those who oppress them. Don't mistreat foreigners, orphans, or widows, and don't oppress them. Don't kill innocent people in this place. If you do what I say, then the kings who sit on David's throne will ride through the gates of this palace in chariots and on horses along with their officials and their people.  But if you don't do what I say, I will take an oath on myself," declares the LORD, "that this palace will become a pile of rubble."  [Jeremiah 22:3-5]

God sees everything and is aware of the injustice in this world

"For I know your many transgressions and your many sins. They afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate."  [Amos 5:12]

"Don't be surprised if you see poor people being oppressed, denied justice, or denied their rights in any district. One authority is watching over another, and they both have authorities watching over them [ie God]".  [Ecclesiastes 5:8]

"How horrible it will be for those who make unjust laws and who make oppressive regulations.  They deprive the poor of justice. They take away the rights of the needy among my people. They prey on widows and rob orphans. What will you do on the day you are called to account for these things, when the disaster comes from far away? Where will you run for help? Where will you leave your wealth?"  [Isaiah 10:1-3]

God promises to bring justice and equity, but we need patience because his time-line is different to ours.

"Dear friends, don't ignore this fact: One day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness, but is long-suffering toward us, not purposing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night,.." (2 Peter 3:8-10)

"Because oppressed people are robbed and needy people groan, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will provide safety for those who long for it."  [ Psalms 12:5]

When Jesus returns to set up God's Kingdom on earth, we are promised that:
"His government and peace will have unlimited growth. He will establish David's throne and kingdom. He will uphold it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The LORD of Armies is determined to do this!"  [Isaiah 9:7]

"The LORD is waiting to be kind to you. He rises to have compassion on you. The LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him.[Isaiah 30:18]

Do not take revenge - leave it to God who will deliver perfect Justice

"Do not give evil for evil to any man. Let all your business be well ordered in the eyes of all men.

As far as it is possible for you be at peace with all men. Do not give punishment for wrongs done to you, dear brothers, but give way to the wrath of God; for it is said in the holy Writings, Punishment is mine, I will give reward, says the Lord. But if one who has hate for you is in need of food or of drink, give it to him, for in so doing you will put coals of fire on his head. Do not let evil overcome you, but overcome evil by good.  [Romans 12:17-21]

"Do not say, "I'll get even with you!" Wait for the LORD, and he will save you". [Proverbs 20:22]

If we have no patience to wait for God's justice, we lack faith in his promises:

"You have tried the patience of the LORD with your words. But you ask, "How have we tried his patience?" When you say, "Everyone who does evil is considered good by the LORD. He is pleased with them," or "Where is the God of justice?"  [Malachi 2:17]

Jesus endured the greatest injustice, and overcame evil with good.
God has promised to send him again as King of Kings.

"We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought him. Then he received the highest position in heaven, the one next to the throne of God. Think about Jesus, who endured opposition from sinners, so that you don't become tired and give up". [Hebrews 12:2-3 ]

God will bring perfect justice to Jesus and to all righteous people.  God said to Jesus:

"Sit at My right hand until I place Your enemies as a footstool to Your feet."  [Act 2:34-35]

The Bible Gives Answers:

God is the creator of all things
"In the beginning God created heaven and earth." (Genesis 1:1)

Moses said to the LORD, "Please, Lord, I'm not a good speaker. I've never been a good speaker, and I'm not now, even though you've spoken to me. I speak slowly, and I become tongue-tied easily." The LORD asked him, "Who gave humans their mouths? Who makes humans unable to talk or hear? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? It is I, the LORD! (Exodus 4:10-11)

Jesus was commissioned by God to bring both spiritual & physical healing
"The Spirit of the Lord is with me. He has anointed me to tell the Good News to the poor. He has sent me to announce forgiveness to the prisoners of sin and the restoring of sight to the blind, to forgive those who have been shattered by sin, to announce the year of the Lord's favor."
(Luke 4:18-19)

God showed that Jesus was his messiah (anointed one) by doing great miracles through him:
"Blind people see again, lame people are walking, those with skin diseases are made clean, deaf people hear again, dead people are brought back to life, and poor people hear the Good News". (Matthew 11:5)

Even righteous people suffer trials and tribulations in this life, for their own good.  God guides and disciplines those he loves..
"My brothers and sisters, be very happy when you are tested in different ways. You know that such testing of your faith produces endurance. Endure until your testing is over. Then you will be mature and complete, and you won't need anything." (James 1:2-4)

"You are extremely happy about these things, even though you have to suffer different kinds of trouble for a little while now. The purpose of these troubles is to test your faith as fire tests how genuine gold is. Your faith is more precious than gold, and by passing the test, it gives praise, glory, and honor to God. This will happen when Jesus Christ appears again." (1 Peter 1:6-7)

Victory over suffering through the love of Jesus Christ.
"Who will accuse those whom God has chosen? God has approved of them. Who will condemn them? Christ has died, and more importantly, he was brought back to life. Christ has the highest position in heaven. Christ also intercedes for us. What will separate us from the love Christ has for us? Can trouble, distress, persecution, hunger, nakedness, danger, or violent death separate us from his love? As Scripture says: "We are being killed all day long because of you. We are thought of as sheep to be slaughtered." The one who loves us gives us an overwhelming victory in all these difficulties. I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love which Christ Jesus our Lord shows us. We can't be separated by death or life, by angels or rulers, by anything in the present or anything in the future, by forces or powers in the world above or in the world below, or by anything else in creation." (Romans 8:33-39)

The future glory is far greater than the present suffering.
"I consider our present sufferings insignificant compared to the glory that will soon be revealed to us." (Romans 8:18)

God will end all suffering after Jesus returns to set up God's Kingdom..
"I will create a new heaven and a new earth. Past things will not be remembered. They will not come to mind? There will no longer be an infant who lives for only a few days or an old man who doesn't live a long life. Whoever lives to be a hundred years old will be thought of as young. Whoever dies before he is a hundred years old will be cursed as a sinner". (Isaiah 65:17-25)

The last book of the bible reveals God?s ultimate plan

"I saw a new heaven and a new earth, because the first heaven and earth had disappeared, and the sea was gone. Then I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, dressed like a bride ready for her husband. I heard a loud voice from the throne say, "God lives with humans! God will make his home with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There won't be any more death. There won't be any grief, crying, or pain, because the first things have disappeared
(Revelation 21:1-4)
